Final Fantasy 1 Review

Overview:
I picked up my copy of Origins a few years ago for the PS1. I was excited to play both Final Fantasy 1 and 2 because I thought I could better understand the series if I played most of them. Final Fantasy 2 was pretty good, except for the leveling system. 1 on the other hand, was quite a letdown. It was said that both games were going to be improved, so I figured that would mean, improved battle system, more items, more maps, etc.

Although you do get to choose your four heroes in the beginning, a few of the classes seemed pointless. Thieves with no stealing abilities, Black Mages who could equip White Magic and use it normally, and vice versa. The storyline was as clich'e as it gets, but it's understandable since it came out in the eighties. Final Fantasy 1 gets a decent score in my book, but I feel it should've been further improved for Origins.

Graphics: 1/10
Comparing the graphics from then to today, it's obvious.

Story: 4/10
Origins could've had a little more plot and the main story was boring.

Characters: 6/10
You chose your four characters in the beginning, but some of the classes were quite pointless and they had no personalities.

Gameplay: 7/10
The battle system is still old and outdated, but it was entertaining.

Overall: 6/10
A great classic but it could've been much more improved for Origins.
