Can peace ever be known...
Emodrummer's Review #1
Well, this is the first sequel to any Final Fantasy game, making it original in it's area, sadly though it's the worst in it's area, giving any chance of another sequel (That is a game) hard to accept. In the world of Spira (once again) we find that Final Fantasy X-2 is a few years after the roaring feud between the likes of Sin and many other huge bosses and battles, and though still familiar in many ways such as a few characters, and obviously that world, there is still a few new add-ons which 'attempt' to make llook FFX-2 look good. Though, sadly of course it still does not in anyway live up to the likes of the name of FF or S-E even!
The FFX-2 battle system is quite good, I must admit, with it being at an incredibly fast pace and very easy to understand, even if you have never picked up a FF game before. The FFX-2 system seems to take the best elements from FFX's system and combining them with a fast paced ATB system, and forming an incredibly fast paced system making it not just more enjoyable to partake in the battles but making them go by at a quicker pace then of what the likes of FF fans have seen before. The ATB system as well shows that S-E at least put in some technical work into this game, which ensures that it was not a complete waste of time (ATB pretty much means the higher your character's agility happens to be, the more likely your character's turn is going to happen, the faster you are the more turns you get). In FFX-2, each ability has a certain speed like in FFX, and some even require charge times. By timing your attacks so they go off at the same time as another character, you can create a chain combo on the fiend or enemy you are battling. If the attack happens to become a chain, the damage delt is slightly increased, more then it would averagally be. Classes even can be changed in the midst of battle and bonuses can be unlocked depending on which type of grid you have equipped. This allows incredible flexibility during the battle and allows you to plan out a more diverse and solitude startegy, rather then doing so before battle in some FFs. In the end, this is probably the greatest new feauture that S-E has placed into FFX-2. I would rate the Battle System of Final Fantasy X-2 a 7.5/10
The music in this FF seems to be the main object in which S-E seemed to put the most work into... or based around the game I should say. As the main character is somehow interlocked through a dress sphere of that of a dead summoner who happened to be an incredible singer, and in love with a man who looked incredibly similar to Tidus (main character in FFX) Lets as well not forget that Yuna surprisingly looks heavily similar to the singer... which is only slightly odd? Though nonetheless, the music is complete crap unless your into the likes of pop. S-E seemed to have drop the incredible usual Orchestrated themes and added in this pop... brittney spears worthy crap. Though, at least it seems to have the usually well orchestarted battle themes and such, they pretty much are incredibly similar to the ones of FFX. As well, though the theme seems very popish, this can also be lowered to a lower level as all the main charcters happen to be only girls, and only three of them. Now before you say that I am sexist, you must take in the fact that these girls are radically annoying on most levels, and have over acted personalities, and are just looking for a fun time in their slutish outfits. Now don't get me wrong, the voice acting is highly incredible... but everything else in the sound section is completely unoriginal and in no way seems to intrigue any kind of male audience. I would rate the Sound (Music/Vocal etc. of Final Fantasy X-2 a 4/10
Here comes the worst of it all, the storyline. Final Fantasy, I would probably say is popular because of it's incredible and insanely compelling storylines. But it's a laugh to say FFX-2 was any where close to the likes of that. This game seems incredibly based along small, numerous plots and sidequests instead of an incredible, explosive large one. Making this game an utter mess, and an utter disaster to play. The story was lamely built around the mystery of some guy who looked like Tidus... which seemed hal-decent I suppose, though everything just collapses when the feud begins to intensify between New Yevon, and the Crusaders (Which funnily pretty much begins within the first hour). Though, usually something like that would seem intriguing and maybe even enjoyable... it is sadly all figured out by a musical concert in which Yuna puts together. And lets just say now, the side quests were brutal. Not as in bloody, but as in an incredible piece of junk. The way they made the stories in missions as well totally took away from whaat the name of Final Fantasy should be, and of course making it complete crap. This game should be in no way considered a Final Fantasy, especially if your looking for an even half decent storyline. I would rate the Story Line of Final Fantasy X-2 a 2/10 (It got 2 for at least attempting it)
Most of the visuals come straight out of FFX, though there have been a few improvements and additions here and there. They still remain at the top of the RPG graphics pyramid though, and the FMVs are simply stunning. Which is good, considering the rest of the game seemed a complete mess. I would rate the Visuals of Final Fantasy X-2 a 9/10
Overall, this game was crap. The storyline was complete junk, the charcters were a girly, slutty, trio lacking originality and all sense of everything. The game could probably be rushed in 25 hours, and beaten with ease since it is no doubt the easiest Final Fantasy that has been brought out. The battle system was at least quite pleasing and quite fast paced, and the visuals were very decent. The voice acting was quite good excluding a few annoying characters, though the music lacked originality, and most of it sucked completely. I would rate the whole of Final Fantasy X-2 a 6.5/10
