From now on, instead of making threads asking single questions about FF11, post in here to get them answered.

I've taken a good look at this game, but I haven't gotten it yet. I wanted to find out more about it, so I guess this is the place. Something that concerned me was that you need to find people to group with to level up. Is this true? If so, how easy is it to find groups?

You do need a balanced group in order to make it in the world of Vana'diel. Battles can be tough if you're not prepared for it and that means knowing the role you play for your party. Managing hate is an important part of that. The more damage or cures you dish out, the more likely the mobs will target you. Since most magic users are weak, the party will need somebody to tank and keep the hate from the mages. Dragging out battles would exhaust your healer's MP and that requires nukers to deal good damage to keep battles manageable.
As for finding a party, it's fairly easy. Finding a good party is difficult. FFXI does require a good balanced group and it really depends on who's on at the time. Sometimes people will have to leave in the middle of a quest or grind and that could break up a good rhymth your team was building. Killing mobs in quick succession gives you a slight boost in EXP, so if you've got a good group going, you'll level up very easily.

How many members does a party consist of? I'm not sure what professions there are, but there's the tank and the healer, then the DPS dealer, right?
Does anyone from Square Enix Forums play this? Maybe we could help each other out sometime...

You can have party's with two, three, four people and so on.
I play it, just started a week ago, and I got invited to a group that I speak too, and a few people will offer to make a party with you. It's a good starting point to just join a group, it'll teach you how to talk with people and battle with them.

I don't know if this is the same question as what Adrim asked...
How many people can you have on the battle field?

It's not really a battle field as such. You can see your enemies, and you choose if you want to attack them (for the most part), and the camera stays the same during and not during combat, so you can have loads of people.

Technically a full party consist of 6 pplz and u can have allaiances with oter parties to end up with a grand total of 18 pplz. But Alliances are only for the big quest and Uber God monsters in the sky. Partying at low lvls are not that great when U hit lvl 10 is when you need to find good parties of six pplz. 4 or 5 might work if you are on a quest but when lvling up it is mostly useless. (Unless U got a High lvl helping u out outside the party)

No offence intended or anything, but doesn't a thread of this nature defeat the purpose of having a FFXI board?

^well it knida those and it kinda doesn't. There are no more needs to post Questions. You can post stuff about the games like new areas updates and stuff like that to talk about. You can also talk about News in the game. So I guess the board isn't completely useless

Possibly. After all, this area's description DOES say,
"Discuss Final Fantasy XI - the first online Final Fantasy! make clans, talk gameplay etc"
Anyways.
How do you pay to play this game anyway?

It's just like any other bills and services you pay for. When you get the game, you need to register with Square Enix's PlayOnline service and you enter your VISA or Mastercard information. Each month, Square Enix takes $12.99 USD from your account (if you're not getting any of the extras). You can cancel at anytime and you still get to play till that month expires. VISA and Mastercard are the only available form of payment... you can't buy game cards, send Square Enix cash, cheques or money-orders.

I'd to remind members to please ask questions concerning game play, setting up and FAQ here. There are to be no more topics concerning a single question.

I've got a question for starting out. I've had the game for just a few days now. I'm a level six Elvaan warrior. I still have the starting armor, and I have a brass Zhagnol for a weapon. I'd like to know what would be best to go with, for both weapons and armor. I have a few thousand gold that a friend lent me, and I bought the leather gear. And for weapons, I dont see any weapons around my level that are better than the zhagnol. I would like to have something that can attack faster but I'm not sure. I heard that a double handed axe is the best weapon to go for a warrior, but a sword attacks really fast. Zhagnols are more for dark knights too, so any idea on how I should go about this? It is pretty annoying how I keep getting ganged up by goblins and cant defend myself.

There are really no rights and wrongs for weapons with war just go with wat you like and as for the zaghnol it my be more powerful than the other weapons but its attacks are much slower so in a way all weapons are equal because of the speed to power ratio. In the case of armor i just figured out wat the main sets of armor were and bought those usually the armor will last you about 6-10 lvls b4 the next main set of armor

You'll mostly be just taking damage anyway until about level 40 as a Warrior, in other words...you'll be tanking. If you aren't, you are there just to make up the numbers really. The only way you'll actually compete with a proper damage dealing job before then is if you are amazingly rich, and with about 3k gil, you really aren't rich. :)
If you want more advice, then PM me or something, I was a Level 75 BLM, but I levelled WAR for quite a while.

http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/server/ answers your first question.
To answer your second question. I didn't ever do it, but I think one way is to leave a comment in the Warez section.
