While "non-game DS series" sounds like kind of an oxymoron, that is, none the less, what Square Enix is working on. The DS software is meant to be "practical" and target the non-gamer audience.
The series of games, dubbed "DS Style" is set to include such useful titles as "Chikyuu no Arukikata DS" (How to Walk the Earth DS), a set of tour guides that features maps, tourist attractions, shops, and the ability to record notes. The first three versions of the title will cover Italy, France, and Thailand, and the second set will include Hawaii, New York, and Taiwan.
"DS de Classic Kiitemimasenka?" (Won't You Try Listening to Classical Music on the DS?), and "Hansaku DS Gardening Life" (Flower Blooming DS Gardening Life) will also be among the initial releases in the series, geared toward music lovers and gardening enthusiasts, repectively.
The titles are tentatively scheduled for a summer release in Japan. No information on an overseas release is available.
