According to IGN, this week's issue of Famitsu magazine has a feature on Dissidia Final Fantasy, revealing details of the games battle system... as well as some plot details.
And yes, the game, projected to be a fighter, does apparently have a plot. It seems that in the eternal war between Cosmos (go of balance and hormony) and Chaos (god of disorder), Chaos has gained the upper-hand. Hope rests with the 10 warriors selected by Cosmos. It is assumed that these 10 are matched by warriors chosen by Chaos.
Tetsuya Nomura told Famitsu that the development team is working on getting as many characters as possible into the game, and also that the player will be able to see different things by clearing the game's story mode with each character.
The battle system of the game involves the use of special skills unique to each charater (displayed in a command list in the lower left corner). Available skills will change depending on distance from the player's opponent. The game will also incorporate jumping an evasion tactics, but the controls are supposedly simple enough for novince players. Characters gain experience points from batting, and can be customized with equipment and armor.
Parts of the environment can be detsroyed durring battle, and doing s builds up the character's Brave meter. This in turn gives the player access to new attacks. Attacking opponents also causes the Special Move gauge to build up (likely leading to the character's limit skill).
Known skills currently include FF1's warrior of light being able to transform using the Class Change command as well as an Excaliber and Long Range command. Zidane has a Trance command.
Square Enix has not announced a release date for Dissidia, which is being developed for PSP, but IGN is expecting a release some time this year, due to the game being intended as a 20th anniversary project.
